It is one of the nation's largest counties with 4,084 square miles, and has the largest population of any county in the nation - over 10 million residents who account for approximately 27 percent of California's population. Los Angeles is also famous as the home of Hollywood, a major center of the world entertainment industry.

Agency Broadcasting


The Metropolitan Transportation Commission was created by the California Legislature in 1970 and was largely focused on planning for the expansion of the region's transportation network. In the ensuing years, lawmakers in Sacramento and D.C. have given the agency broad powers involving the planning, financing, coordination and management of transportation.Its board is comprised of local elected officials from across the region, and it has wide discretion on how to spend federal transportation dollars at the regional and local level. However, most of its budget revenue comes from local sources such as bridge and expressway tolls.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District is a public agency that regulates the stationary sources of air pollution in the nine counties of California's San Francisco Bay Area. The BAAQMD is governed by a Board of Directors composed of 22 elected officials from each of the nine Bay Area counties, and the board has the duty of adopting air pollution regulations for the district. The BAAQMD is a regional government agency that works closely with the California Air Resources Board (State agency) but has considerable independence from Sacramento. Their budget is dependent on grants from the state and federal level.

The Association of Bay Area Governments is a regional planning agency incorporating various local governments in the San Francisco Bay Area in California. It encompasses nine counties surrounding the San Francisco Bay. It has the ability to establish housing and transportation goals for cities to minimize urban sprawl by that requiring housing be zoned for near new workplace construction. It deals with land use, housing, environmental quality, and economic development. Non-profit organizations as well as governmental organizations can be members. All nine counties and 101 cities within the Bay Area are voluntary members of ABAG.

City Broadcasting


The City of Westlake Village operates on a contract basis in which many of the day-to-day services of local government are provided by public and private agencies. The residents of Westlake Village elect a five-member City Council to oversee the City operations and to guide the future development of the community. Councilmembers are elected at large to serve a four-year term. Each year the Council selects one of its members to serve as Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem. The City Council appoints a City Manager to supervise all administrative, personnel, and contract services.
